Change.org: I didn’t sign up to kill civilians
Next Thursday, I could be separated from my husband and four children and deported from Canada to the U.S. where I will face court martial and even up to 5 years in jail — I publicly opposed the Iraq war.
I joined the U.S. army when I was 24 and was sent to Iraq. Immediately, I was horrified to see the terror our army was causing Iraqi families - families like mine. While on a two week leave, I knew my conscience wouldn’t let me go back. My family and I drove four days to Canada to seek asylum.
Now the Canadian Government is ordering our family to leave. While the Canadian Government says I’ll only get a slap on the wrist, the U.S. military is known for prosecuting those like me who have spoken out against the war.
My family thanks you,
