This is a brief chronology of the current...
This is canon. Not an Elseworlds. Not a dream. As of Justice League #12 Superman and Wonder Woman are together. EW has the story:
Writer Geoff Johns hints that some event — possibly tragic — will impact every member of the Justice League, and cause Superman and Wonder Woman to seek solace in each other and move from super-powered colleagues to power couple. This is no one-issue stunt: “This is the new status quo,” says Johns, adding that the relationship will have a seismic impact on all the heroes and villains in the DC universe.
“The new status quo”. Now you know why they ditched the super marriage.
I have some thoughts on this. But they will come later.
They will not be pleasant.
At this point, I’m not surprised. I’m vaguely upset but not really surprised. Once upon a time I’d be thrilled that two of my favorite heroes were going to be together but with the way the reboot has been executed and characters have remained shells of their former shells, I’m just meh.
It’s going to suck. Wonder Woman will be ubersexualized whenever she’s with Supes and she’s going to be (in books where they’re together) awkwardly written as submissive to him and again any hint of her being queer or of Supes and Lois having any past or any potential will be erased.
I think I’m just going to pretend that the books I don’t pay for don’t exist and hope it comes true.
Okay, DC. I’m done.
I’m just fuckin’ done. This is nothing more than fanboy pandering. Pandering to the lowest common denominator. That group that has their little fantasies about a pairing, and even went so far as to do unmentionable things by themselves in private.
This pandering disgusts me so much, I’m pretty much just gonna give up on DC and say fuck it, who cares about them. More times than not whenever there’s been something that would have been a really awesome thing, DC goes and fucks it up for everyone.
With that in mind, I plan on continuing to pick up Batwoman, Batgirl and Birds of Prey because those books I enjoy. I haven’t been liking World’s Finest, and I think much of that comes from the fact that I really didn’t like how Helena Bertinelli was erased like she was (I suppose the same could be said for the original Helena Wayne during Crisis, but at least that was more heroic than just having an ID burned up).
What DC has done with their reboot, to the current news ending with this pairing has made my once quite vibrant love of comics become a festering puss filled bile bag of hatred toward the medium.
I’m gonna have to end, because A) I’m doing this at work, and B) I need to stop before I set a record in number of F-Bombs dropped in a post.
