In honor of Curiosity’s successful landing, I present “Three Generations,” courtesy of John Klose , JPL employee since 2002. It shows the Mars landers Spirit (foreground), Opportunity (middle), and Curiosity (background) taken in front of JPL building 180, aka the Directors building.
SO COOL.
For all the folks asking why Curiosity is such a big deal when we’ve landed several other robots on mars; LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT DAMN THING!
As well, when people say we’ve landed “so many other robots on Mars”, it’s only been three. Three isn’t a lot. Especially considering the manpower and cost it takes to get a robot on the surface of Mars.

You know, NASA, generally things get smaller as they get more complex (machine-wise)…
van como los smartphones, cada día mas grandes
I had no idea how big Curiosity was. Holy crap.
WRONG! its sojourner in the foreground, then spirit/opportunity (they were twin rovers)
